When you see Larry Janesky’s signature picture holding that big umbrella you immediately think about the fantastic basement waterproofing services that he offers along with several other home related services. With a little imagination however, you might also include the community that Larry also supports under that umbrella through his philanthropic efforts in the community. Larry’s success as a businessman has come because of his vision and quality for all the services that his companies provide, and no one does it better than Larry.

At the same time, Larry also recognizes that the quality of life in the communities that he services is also very important for his employees and for his clients. As a result, Basement Systems is not only a leader in its core businesses, but also a leader in its community involvement. One of those involvements has been with United Way where they have run a successful United Way campaign for a number of years and have won numerous United Way awards. They have also been leaders on United Way’s Corporate Volunteer Council which conducts hands-on volunteer projects using business volunteers to support local non-profit health and human services. The premiere event for the Council is a rather unique “house building” project. The Council’s house is not the typical type of home that Basement Systems is usually involved with. Rather, it is a house made out of food. Upwards of 100,000 nonperishable food items are used in the construction of the house which is quickly dismantled with the food. Basement Services has been one of the core companies of the project from the very beginning.

Recently, Larry was awarded $2,500 as a finalist for the prestigious Fred Case Remodeling Entrepreneur of the Year Award from Remodeling magazine. The criteria for the award is business acumen, company financial strength, community and industry involvement, and entrepreneurial spirit. Anyone who has watched Larry build his business can testify to his incredible qualifications on all fronts.

So next time you look at Larry and that umbrella, recognize that Larry and Basement Systems are really expert at not only fixing homes, but also fixing communities.
